OFF-TRACK REHABILITATION
At T.R.O.T.R., we specialize in rehabilitating retired racehorses to help them transition to a new home and career. We begin by evaluating their temperament and physical capabilities, worming and vaccinating them, checking them for and treating any signs of illness or injury, and providing proper dental and hoof care. We also put them on a diet that’s not as high-energy as high-performing racehorses require and give them time to de-stress and adjust to their new environment, diet, and circumstances. Finally, we begin training them for Western and/or English riding, which is different from the style jockeys employ on the racetrack. Finally, we bring them onboard as lesson/therapy horses in our riding programs or find them loving homes.
T.R.O.T.R. & ALTA REGIONAL CENTER: PARTNERING FOR EMPOWERMENT AND GROWTH
Therapeutic Riding and Off-Track Rehabilitation (T.R.O.T.R.) is proud to partner with Alta Regional Center to provide life-enhancing equine-assisted services for individuals with developmental disabilities. As a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating since 2006, T.R.O.T.R.’s mission is to improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of people through therapeutic horse-related programs.
Together with Alta Regional Center, we aim to provide comprehensive support for individuals and families, ensuring that every participant can achieve their goals and enjoy the benefits of our unique equine programs.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Not all classrooms have four walls! At T.R.O.T.R., we nurture the development of curious, creative, and compassionate children and adults while honoring and strengthening deep-rooted connections to community, nature, and the environment.
We offer programs for home school, public, and private school students as well as community and other groups.
LEARNING LEVEL CLASSES
Want to learn about riding and/or horse care from A to Z? T.R.O.T.R. offers learning level classes that enable students of all ages to expand their knowledge progressively along two paths: mounted horsemanship, which focuses on developing strong knowledge and hands-on skills in either English or Western riding, and an unmounted curriculum, which teaches students about horses and every aspect of their care.
Students can start with rainbow level, which covers the basics of riding and horse care through fun activities such as games and scavenger hunts. Then they can choose to take either the mounted or unmounted path or both. Each level is accompanied by a study guide.
As they reach specified milestones, they can move from level to level, earning a ribbon and a certificate as affirmation of their progress. Students can advance at their own pace by attending clinics offered at various levels throughout the year. If they aren’t interested in progressive learning but just want to focus on a specific aspect of riding or horse care, they can sign up for mounted or unmounted lessons.
For more information or to receive notifications when learning level clinics are scheduled, send a message to info@trotr.org or debbie@trotr.org.
BOARDING
T.R.O.T.R. Four Winds Farm offers self-care boarding for a limited number of horses. Self-care boarding means we provide shelter with attached paddocks and feed hay twice a day. Boarders are responsible for cleaning stalls and managing all other aspects of their horse’s care.
Accommodations include the big barn (12 x 12’ stalls with automatic waterers and 12 x 24’ attached paddocks), the mare motel (12 X 12’ stalls with 12 X 12’ attached paddocks), and large semi-private and group paddocks with run-in sheds. Boarders can choose from a selection of high-quality grass, oat, rye, and alfalfa hay. Supplements and/or feed will be given to your horse at feed time if you provide them pre-packaged in a container by your horse’s stall.
Board is $350 per month. Additional services can be provided for a fee.
Boarders can ride in our outdoor arena and covered indoor arena, both of which have a mix of sand and rubber footing, and also can use our outdoor sand round pen.
