Therapeutic Riding and Off-Track Rehabilitation

T.R.O.T.R. & Alta Regional Center: Partnering for Empowerment and Growth

Therapeutic Riding and Off-Track Rehabilitation (T.R.O.T.R.) is proud to partner with Alta Regional Center to provide life-enhancing equine-assisted services for individuals with developmental disabilities. As a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating since 2006, T.R.O.T.R.’s mission is to improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of people through therapeutic horse-related programs.

Together with Alta Regional Center, we aim to provide comprehensive support for individuals and families, ensuring that every participant can achieve their goals and enjoy the benefits of our unique equine programs.

Tailored Programs for Alta Regional Center Clients

At T.R.O.T.R., we recognize that each individual has different needs, abilities, and goals. That’s why our Adaptive Riding Program, guided by PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors (CTRI), is designed to cater to every rider’s personal journey. With input from Alta Regional Center, we ensure that our services complement the developmental and therapeutic goals of each participant, whether they’re looking to improve physical strength, emotional resilience, or social skills.

Equine-Assisted Services (EAS) for All Abilities

Our Adaptive Riding Program, a branch of Equine-Assisted Services (EAS), offers a wide array of benefits for individuals of all ages and abilities. Horseback riding rhythmically moves the rider’s body in ways similar to walking, helping to improve flexibility, balance, and muscle tone. Beyond the physical benefits, the connection with horses fosters social skills, emotional regulation, and a sense of empowerment.

With Alta Regional Center’s support, we’re able to provide personalized attention to each client, ensuring they are evaluated before entering the program and every 3-6 months afterward. This ongoing assessment guarantees that we’re continually meeting the evolving needs of each participant.

A Holistic Approach to Learning and Growth

We provide more than just riding lessons. At T.R.O.T.R., we offer fun, goal-oriented activities that enrich the therapeutic experience. Through games, interactive exercises, and trail rides, participants are encouraged to engage both physically and mentally. Our combination of trusted horses, skilled instructors, and dedicated volunteers ensures a safe, nurturing environment where riders feel empowered to try new things and achieve personal milestones.

For those who may not wish to ride, our unmounted programs offer the same level of care and attention. Clients work with horses on the ground, building self-confidence through horse-handling skills and deepening their bond with the animals. These hands-on activities also improve self-awareness and emotional regulation, providing many of the same benefits as mounted lessons.

Working Together for the Best Outcomes

Alta Regional Center plays a key role in ensuring that individuals with developmental disabilities receive the services and support they need to thrive. Through this partnership, T.R.O.T.R. is able to offer individualized equine therapy programs that promote physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being in a safe and natural outdoor setting.

We work closely with Alta Regional Center to align our services with the center’s mission of empowering individuals to live independent and productive lives. By offering therapeutic horseback riding and unmounted activities, we help participants build self-esteem, improve motor skills, and develop strong social connections.
